MTO Vision Testing in Hamilton, ON
If you've received a request from the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) or DriveTest to have your vision assessed for your driver's licence, You & Eye Optometry on Fennell Ave E, Hamilton Mountain can help. We perform official MTO vision tests and complete the required MTO forms with prompt, convenient appointments.
What Is an MTO Vision Test?
An MTO vision test is a formal assessment of your driving vision — required by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation in specific situations. It evaluates two key areas:
Visual Acuity
How clearly you can see at distance — measured in each eye separately and both eyes together, with and without corrective lenses.
Visual Field Testing
The width of your peripheral (side) vision — Ontario requires a minimum horizontal visual field of 120 degrees for most driver's licences.
After testing, we complete the official MTO vision report form, which you submit to DriveTest or ServiceOntario as part of your licence renewal or medical review process.
Who Needs an MTO Vision Test?
- Drivers aged 80 and over — required every two years as part of Ontario's mandatory senior driver renewal program
- Drivers referred by DriveTest or ServiceOntario — when a vision concern is flagged during a renewal or road test
- Drivers returning from a medical licence suspension — clearance vision testing before reinstatement
- Commercial vehicle licence (DZ, AZ) applicants — stricter visual standards apply for commercial licences
- Drivers whose physician or specialist has requested an optometric vision report for MTO purposes
